NEBOSH Health & Safety Award

 The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award provides a best practice introduction to workplace health, safety, and risk that is relevant to all industry sectors. 

The course content is delivered in an understandable and accessible way and will help you to: 

  • Gain an awareness of common workplace hazards so you can help to implement or maintain your organisation’s health and safety management system

  • Gain practical skills that can help keep yourself and others safe

Many people take the NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award as a first step in a career in health and safety. It gives a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

Achieving the qualification

The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award has one assessment: This is based on a workplace assessment looking at and identifying health and safety management processes and workplace hazards. You must achieve a ‘Pass’ in the unit to be awarded the qualification. Once you have achieved a Pass a qualification parchment will be issued, within 20 working days of the result declaration date for the unit

 

Resubmitting the assessment 

You can resubmit your assessment if you received a ‘Refer’ result. There is no limit on the number of times you can resubmit, however, you must register and pay the associated registration fee on each occasion. Qualification grading and issue of qualification parchment

Learning Outcome - On completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  • 1. Understand why health & safety needs to be managed, ensuring effective processes are in place.

  • 4. Understand why incidents happen & how to investigate them.

Assessment criteria

Carry out a workplace health & safety review which:

  • Considers how health & safety is currently managed, & how it can be managed better

  • Identifies health & safety issues present, how they are controlled, & if the risk can be reduced

  • Selects the most important issue for improvement using moral, legal & financial reasons.

Unit prefix and title Unit HSA1: Health and Safety at Work

Assessment Unit HSA1: Assessment Type: Practical assessment: Time 3 hours (approx.) Pass mark 75%

Notional learning hours: A full-time block release course (minimum of 3 days) Part-time day release (spread over 3 weeks) Open, distance learning, eLearning

Qualification level and number of credits: SCQF Level 5 (equivalent to RQF Level 2) with 2 credits

Entry requirements: None

Recommended minimum standards of English: Equivalent to an International English Language Testing System score of 5.0 or higher in IELTS tests

Languages available: English

Qualification grades: Pass or Refer
